Things to do

Tarraleah offers a range of activities for guest staying in the Lodge. Please check with reception for latest offers. There are plenty of outdoor activities including cycling, kayaking and fishing. Tarraleah Golf Club has a 9 hole golf course so don’t forget to bring your clubs with you.  You can hire golfing equipment from the club if you forget to pack your own.

Bagging your Trout

We have over thirty lakes and more than six streams within a thirty minute radius. Local lakes have rainbow trout and Atlantic salmon as well as trophy size brown trout. Bag limits of 12 beautiful big wild fish per day apply. Average weights around two to four pounds – it is the experience that is truly different. 

Fly Fishing Tours

Learn the art and craft of fly fishing with some of Australia’s best guides, create your own fly and then bring home the wildest brown trout nature can find. Tasmania’s speciality is ‘sight fishing’ where you spot and then stalk a specific fish; tremendously exciting and like no where else on the planet.

Lake St Clair

Lake St Clair is at the southern end of the world famous Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park and is part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. The area around Lake St Clair offers a wealth of walks, ranging from leisurely strolls to overnight bushwalks, as well as beautiful forests to explore. Lake St Clair is also the end point of the famous Overland Track, a long-distance walk which runs from Cradle Mountain in the north to Cynthia Bay on the southern shore of Lake St Clair.

Mount Field

Mt Field National Park  has a wide variety of scenic features and wildlife and offers a great range of facilities for day visitors. Few other national parks in Australia offer such a diversity in vegetation, ranging from tall swamp gum forests and massive tree ferns at the base of the mountain, through rainforest along the Lake Dobson Road, to alpine vegetation at the higher elevations. The park offers stunning walks through enormous fern forests and some of the tallest trees in the world and day walks around Lake Dobson.

The Cliff top Spa

Relaxation at Tarraleah is an art form. Take a little time out and soak up the view from the comfort of the cliff top spa. Marvel at the cascading eucalypt vista across the mountains while you sip champagne. The Gym

For those who don't want to slow down to Tarraleah time, there is a fully equipped gym in the bath house with some pretty spectacular views over the escarpment. A pretty nice place to do a little morning fitness routine. For the joggers out there, there are some nice short runs around the village with great opportunities to breathe fresh mountain air.

For the more out-doorsy types, we offer a huge range of guided tours, including fishing, bush walking, cycling, kayaking, history and wildlife tours, just to name a few. Watch the birds, or walk one of the bush walking tracks around Tarraleah, keeping an eye open for the local wildlife and great views while you breathe in the clean Highland air.
